FUNdamentals kids tennis program

We are excited to announce that Mathiesen Tennis now provide kids tennis lessons from the age of 7. It is essential that kids are taught the right FUNdamentals (see below) from an early age in order to enjoy the game at a high level later on. Whether your kid(s) are new to tennis or already have some experience this is for you if you are 7-9 years old.

Quality is always at the forefront in Mathiesen Tennis so we will have a coach to player ratio of no more than 1:6 to make sure we meet every player at the level they're at. We use an integrated approach (not isolated) to make sure the kids develop all four performance factors cohesively (physical, technical, tactical, and mental/emotional). The learning objectives for the 10 & under FUNdamentals kids stage are:

  • Development of fundamental motor- and athletic skills (agility, balance, coordinative qualities, and speed).

  • Development of fundamental sending & receiving skills (hand-eye coordination/ball skills).

  • Development of tennis specific athletic and technical skills (foot work, body work, racket work).

  • Learning the game of tennis (tactics, rules & sportsmanship).

  • Building character skills, connect with new friends, and have A LOT OF FUN!

Practice will be with red, orange, and green ball depending on maturation and skill, and it will be in line with USTA's and ITF's recommendations.
